Our Story
Welcome to this website. My name is Erina and I am the owner of Hope for Reading. After beginning a homeschool journey with my kids, I realized that two of my own kids had challenges with reading and spelling.. My focus became learning the best ways to teach them to read and write. Along the way, I was told that my sons were dyslexic, dysgraphic and also had challenges with math. Thankfully, I knew a little about dyslexia because my brother is dyslexic. What I didn’t know was that dyslexia is hereditary and others in my family also have struggled with it too.
I do have 5 kids in all and they are a neurodiverse group. Between the 5 kids, they have dyslexia, dysgraphia, challenges with math, epilepsy, autism, ADHD, processing deficits, Rapid Automatic Naming deficits and speech delays. Being that we homeschooled, I wanted to find the best ways to teach them.
Equipping myself in all things dyslexia, I began teaching my kids using the Barton System. When others started asking me to help their kids, I decided to get certified in Orton-Gillingham (OG) through the Dyslexia Training Institute.. Along the way, I have worked at a dyslexia school, and have taken numerous hours of training in Structured Word Inquiry. Additionally, I have received training in Multi-Sensory Math (based on the CRA method- Concrete, Representational, and Abstract) through Multi-Sensory Math, Marilyn Zecher and have taken a couple of classes with Making Math Real
Our tutoring company is named “Hope for Reading” in honor of one of my first clients, Angel. When I asked her what I should name my business, she and her mom both immediately declared “Angel’s Hope”. Seeking to keep the name similar, but to give an idea of our focus, we came up with “Hope for Reading”.
Currently, we offer tutoring(individual and small group) and small group learning sessions. While the focus is on literacy, we also offer tutoring in multi-sensory math.
Having homeschooled for many years, we also offer consultation and sometimes just a listening ear.
Individual tutoring and small group sessions are offered in-person in Temecula at our tutoring center. In the past, we have worked with kids in their home, library or in some local private schools. If you aren’t in our area, virtual tutoring is an option. We hope to connect with you soon.
